“I love you.”

She closed her eyes and let the words wash over her. Her life was infused with such vibrant colors when she was with him. She felt alive with him. She knew he believed the words in the moment, and she wanted to feel them, to believe them too, but she knew he couldn’t give her what she wanted, what she needed from him.

She was all or nothing when it came to love. She had friends, a couple whom she allowed more vivid access to her than others, but in the end, they were friends. They didn’t get into her heart the way he did. They didn’t make her pulse race from just the mention of their names like he did. He was so much more to her than a friend, even a friend with benefits, and she wanted more from him than she knew he could give, at least for now. She hoped someday down the road they’d get it right. She was hopeful but lived in the reality of their current circumstances.

So she took a long breath, enjoying the gratification his words provided to infuse her soul. She smiled softly and opened her eyes. She kissed him, letting him see and feel all their future could be in that kiss. The emotion and energy flowed through her into him. It lifted them both for the briefest of moments, the air around them crackled with electricity, strength, love, passion, joy, something amazing they could only find with the power of each of them together, all that they could be together.

Breaking off the kiss, she touched her forehead to his as their breathing slowed, and the whirlwind that had surrounded them calmed. She touched his lips again, briefly, then ran her fingers through his hair and down to his shoulder, kissing him once again on his neck just behind his earlobe.

She felt him shiver from affection and arousal. She looked in his eyes, said, “I love you too,” and with her eyes told him goodbye, at least for this moment in time.

Damn!!! That felt irritatingly good.....now if only that didn't end in a goodbye.....😌

@Vivaci Irritatingly good? Perfect description of their love, haha! Alas, sometimes it must be a goodbye, at least for a little while in the big scheme of things.
@ChampagneOnIce Yeah, like it's sooooo good, that they deserve to stay. Stay!!! Please stay....🥺

Hmmm....life!!
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@Vivaci Yes, life. Plus, it’s never right when one loves more than the other, at least not for her.
@ChampagneOnIce It's never good if it's more give than take. Kinda like my marriage. I wonder why one would take their lover for granted?

Is it their insecurity or over-confidence?
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@Vivaci In some situations it’s arrogance. In others, it’s insecurities. Sometimes the love just isn’t there to give because it belongs to another. Life and love used to be simple. I’m learning from stories I read on EP and here, it rarely is anymore.
@ChampagneOnIce It's a pity when we mingle materialistic things with our emotions...some even play games. How will love that is adulterated survive for long then?

I agree with you there.... people give up on each other too easily ...and they feel entitled to find another love the moment they face a bump in the road!! Pure, innocent love is rare to find these days....
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@Vivaci That can be true, sadly. Sometimes we unexpectedly find love that cannot be as well. It’s sad whenever any of those things happen.
@ChampagneOnIce oh yeah, that's a bummer...I hope no one faces that. 🥺

Spot on.
