The Young Medieval Monk

A young monk starts work transcribing manuscripts at the monastery library. After making numerous copies of copies of manuscripts, he asks the senior monk, “shouldn’t we be copying from the original book?” The senior monk answers that there are not enough original manuscripts to go around. The young monk accepts the logic of the answer.

Days later the senior monk passes by the library and finds the younger man reading an original manuscript and crying inconsolably. “What’s wrong?”, asks the older man alarmed.

The young monk looks up and says, “The word is celebrate!”
