I Like Chatting Online And Getting To Know People

I just hate it though when someone asks if I want to chat with them and I think to myself this could be a great time to meet someone new. But then like right off the bat they start asking all these personal questions. Like where do live, what do you do for a living, how old are you, and stuff like that. I don’t know I just feel like it’s way too much personal stuff.

Yeah, I agree with that. First off, you wouldn't do that face-to-face. Those are topics to ease into as the time becomes right. Second... this is online, so just jumping into those type of questions are mostly irrelevant. I just wish people who ARE online acted appropriate for BEING online.

What questions would you prefer to be asked? I agree with you for the most part, sometimes it seems too personal, but other times I also think that it is not like I am giving away my social security number, so why do I see these questions as too personal.

@Bubbles Well, the answers to those questions are mostly useless in an online forum and simply suggest the person asking them could care less about meeting someone new and is simply going through the motions. It kind of ruins the moment, if you know what I mean...

@Bubbles that’s what I mean though. Like I’m thinking to myself... geez why don’t you just ask for my social or like my bank info or whatever. I don’t know it just feels intrusive to me. Like why not ask about other stuff like music or movies or something like that I’ve had plenty of conversations like that and those feel a lot less personal

@DRtist102 Yeah, to me, that's the whole point really of any conversation. To find out something meaningful about another person instead of just going through the motions. I want to feel like I am engaged in a conversation... not filling out some random form intended to collect my age/sex/location, etc.

It's called normal converstation.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@TheProphet Um... that's not "normal."
TheProphet · M
@MarkPaul It is for me.

@TheProphet Okay... but remember conversations (usually) take place between more than 1 person. So, we have a responsibility to be sensitive to what is "normal" for everyone involved. Otherwise, it's only 1 person who is getting all the benefit of the conversation. And, that just isn't fair... it's not right.
