Book lovers: Have you ever read a book slowly on purpose to make it last longer?

I started reading “The Institute” by Stephen King six days ago. I finished it just now.

That book was *great*. I wish it had taken longer to read it.

Ha ha that's a lovely question.. yes, in a way I have.. I have an American series I have been reading for years.. I love it.. and am now on the last book, so I am only reading it really slowly as I will be devastated when I finish it..

@Adaydreambeliever what's the series? Would you recommend it?

@SW-User Absolutely.. I am completely mad, insanely in love with it.. I feel like I am a part of that world.. It never ceases to inspire, amuse and fill my thoughts..

The Nearly Complete works of Donald Harrington. There are about 3 volumes.

I might put it down more often trying to eek out the ending

I can read very fast, I had a speed-reading class in high school and I can still do it, but I read fiction very slowly, especially if I like it. I like to wonder why the author chose that word and why he put the sentence together that way. It isn't just a good story and good characters.

That reminds me of a daft theory I once came up with : that one should be as bored in life as possible so that it might seem to go on longer {!} When I'm reading a book I like, my reading sessions are longer so I'm afraid the result is its over faster.

Yes and it was a Stephen King book too!! “The Dark Half” it’s called, really good I didn’t want it to end.

@SW-User That’s pretty good, but IMHO, not his best book. Although he’s written about 50, so there are plenty to choose from.

No but I always feel sadness after a good book because I know it's over that's why I read series of Books

I usually read slowly on purpose. I like to savor the words, and reflect on things as I read them

ALWAYS!! I even purposely try to buy thick books so that it could last for a few days, since I'm a fast reader.

I can't say that I have but there are definitely books that you just want to go on and on.

I resist that temptation because sometimes I’ll get distracted and it ends up being less fun. When I’m into a good book, I’m all in!

Yes, many times.

Other commitments mean that reading slowly is all I ever manage, lately.

@Stereoguy I do re-read books I really like. I will probably re-read this one.

But there’s nothing quite as good as the first time with a new book.
