I Dont Understand People

I don't understand why the religious seem to think you need religion to have morals or faith in a higher power. So long as a person believes in god and has a good moral standing then what does it matter if they a follow a religion or not? I thought part of religion was about having morals and faith in god, so if one already has those then what do they need religion for? Especially if the religion has some inconsistencies and self-contradictions with its moral ideologies...

Religion and morality and good behaviour are not synonims.

What are they then ? That is what a proper religion is about !
@Roddy15: You can behave with integrity, civility, decency and compassion being an atheist.

Religion as history is proof is divisive and has created intolerance and bloodshed. The fact that religious people choose to follow rituals or believe in imaginary beings does not make them more moral , righteous or caring.
