Are you the kind of person who gives multiple chances?

When it comes to my kids I count too
But its how many seconds I have to wait from the moment I asked them to do something ,until they are actually doing it .(anything over 5 is a whack for each number and its no secret ,I use a switch ,only on the rear ,through clothing ,its not over done and after they are punished ,its over .
I don't keep throwing up things they did days ago ,its a case by case .
If they are doing as I asked before I reach 5 (a number only I knew )
Then I show Grace which is mercy they didn't earn ,but it shows them the true meaning of the word ,not that they can keep breaking the rules and get a free pass ,they get an occasional free pass that has us going over why the rules stand and why I can't cut them slack all the time (or like Christians they abuse it )
They know the rules ,(no back talk ,no sucking of teeth or rolling eyes .no mumbling as they walk away ,to do as asked and don't ignore me ,everyone has a chore ,get all homework done first (phone is a privilege not a right )
Manners and Respect are not earned (according to the standards young people use today ) its required (unless someone has shown good reason why they don't deserve it ,and that is my choice not theirs (rarely do I ever allow disrespect of an elder ,they had to really do something for me to agree with that ).(a man did keep popping my daughter on the rear with his guitar that was in my band ,until she told him off ,but since I hand warned him to leave her Butt alone myself ,I allowed her to chew him out in public )He never did it again and it was over .
Now all but one of my kids are grown ,and not only do they agree my rules were just ,so do the parents of their friends ,who's kids now cuss them out and tell them what to do .
Mine are grown ,but I am still Dad ,they respect me and my opinions
They all allowed me to help raise my Grandkids too .and everyone brags on them ,everyone ."You don't see such respectful hard working young people like these now days ,someone raised them right ".
I always hear "I bet you are proud of them " and you know I am .

I tend to give waay more chances than I should and I try to see good in everybody, but eventually you get tired. I have learned to put my foot down. I hate doing it, but sometimes it has to be done.
