Anyone know how to make money in the stock market?

luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
I'm actually "in the business" and I've said this before - It's not a game, it's not something to dabble in...if your serious find a qualified / certified wealth management person, do the research, etc.
If your age is true - money management, retirement planning...all that stuff should be in your wheel house by now....sorry to be all "fatherly" but tomorrow is right around the corner!

My company makes me pick which “funds” my 401 money goes to. They list like 20. So I have to pay a guy to decide for me?@luctoretemergo

I see....that's hard because (as you said) there's a lot of them.
They sometimes have a guy you can call to get advice but don't bother.
Don't do more than 2 or 3. Look at the performance...stay away from ones that are tech base or emerging markets, etc. You want long term (your not 20!)….look for the ones w/the best return and keep a little in the one that's a money market...just in case. Watch it every week. Check it! There's some that say another 2008 is coming so be ready to make the call and pull it back to the money market fund if you have to! ALSO-if they match (say you put in 10%, the company puts in 5%) put the amount in that they match...it's free money! Got it? Good luck..ok I have to get back to reading the depraved sex stuff on here! (kidding!)….

never buy individual stocks. nee r buy mutual funds.. only buy vanguard index funds.. usually a total stock market index fund. I have had returns of %12 per year for 15 years..it is the safest most diversified way to invest

Research companies on your own. Don't trust professional "wealth managers;" they do know how to make themselves wealthy on your dime. And, have patience and fortitude. Don't jump in and out. Betting against the market can pay big dividends... if you have patience and fortitude.

Yes. I've done well in it.

@EnigmaticGeek What's the point though? You checked the box of answering the question, but you failed to advance the discussion. You literally free-loaded, dude. That's not something of which to be proud.

@MarkPaul What value have all of your judgments provided to anyone? You seem to have nothing but time to waste. I didn't even answer the question to obtain pride.

I'm done wasting my time on this thread.
