I Have a Daughter

Everyone has been telling me lately how she is turning into a beautiful young lady .
It is making me very nervous !
No idea how to handle the teenage years 馃槙
I have a both a 17 and 15 year old and so far the teen years have been pretty great. We've had some bumpy patches, but overall it's been good. I love seeing little glimpses of the adults they're growing into as they explore thier interests and explore new found independence. Plus they have better taste in music and movies now. 馃榾
@Reboot: It goes both ways too. I introduced them to classics like X files and in turn watch things like Attack on Titan and Death Note with them.

@ProdigalSummer:
That's good to know .
Yes!
It's defdiney nice to see her become more mature and find her own way and interests.
And yes!
It's nice to go to the movies and not watch PG;-)

Edit: Reread what you said and realized I misunderstood what you said.

Teenage years happen. So far they've been the best years for my family with our two girls. Enjoy them. There's going to be SO MUCH to keep up with and have fun with!

@Reboot:
Thank you .
I am trying to enjoy every second with the kids...
I guess I should face life as it happens and not worry about it ahead of time ..

I cant tell you how many parents I've spoken to who could not accept this and instead lost out on so many aspects of their kids teenage years. This is an amazing part of their life where they're getting to the point that they can start exploring their world in a new way.

The best thing I can say is to encourage them to try new things and explore new ideas, within reason. Dont let them do anything that would actively hurt them (drugs, dangerous behavior, etc) but certainly encourage them to try something new that they're interested in (a new sport, local traveling, researching different cultures and beliefs). Their journey can be just as much fun for you as it can be for them!

@Reboot:

I'll try my best :-)

I always revert back to the time I was a kid, the awkward stage of both the parent and the child :)

@Niloofar: I think its more to do with experiences, I have 2 girls. One 15 the other is 11 and my boy is 5.
You will do it, just be there as their friend.

@Brando:
It's hard to know where the line is , how protective we should be..
I guess we will learn with the kids as we go.
@Niloofar: Mine is beginning to experiment...we know it...can't clamp down or won't get any communication.
SW-User
I'm right there with you 馃槙

Keep 'em roped, just loosen the slack. Let them make mistakes, best way to learn.

She is very quiet and private and most of the times I won't be able to tell what she is up to.
That worries me the most ..
I try to talk to her but I'm not sure how much I can connect with her ..

I am so glad I had a son, knowing how I was as a teenager, I don't know if I could handle a teen aged daughter.
