What do you think is our responsability towards ending suffering?

I turned on the news today and I simply can't deal with what happens around the world. I feel powerless and selfish and I wonder what is our responsibility to the world? Should be strive to stay informed even if there is not much we could do? It is sometimes easy to have a narrow view and avoid the pain...but I feel that by choosing to focus on my "local" circumstances is unfair to those who do not have a choice if to deal or not with the tragedies that surround them. Should we strive to end suffering or do you take it as a necessary part of life?

What we do is the most important thing. Donation of money, time, energy or ideas that help others is what counts. If it makes you feel good, but doesn't touch some else, it doesn't matter much. If you make life better for someone, then you've accomplished something.

Each life that you touch in a positive way may be multiplied as they help others. You can't save the world, you can only save a person, so don't feel bad about not helping all, just help where you can.

For me I see staying informed as difficult, it does seem that so much is sound bite and the rest is covered up. So difficult to know. But yes we can do a something and decide how our own circumstances allow that to take shape.
Thankyou for posting this and for those who have contributed.

Perhaps we break it down maybe just ask around friends as the kids say real life buddies - and those we connect with online.

Is one or two hours a week each possible - scan the papers - write your governments - the press take a moment to inform others.

Do your part in every small way possible. Post on Internet, raise awareness, talk to victims. Any small input is better than indifference.
