Have you ever changed a long held belief?

I used to think forgiveness was so altruistic.
That to be able to do so made you a better person .

Until I realised that, sometimes it just allows others to get worse .

Have you ever changed a core belief ?

I've read about people who struggled and eventually forgave people who murdered their loved ones. It wasn't out of altruism, but rather was to set themselves free. I think this way of thinking could be right. Anyway I don't rule it out. And of course hope I am never tested in that way.
@Poppies this is actually my dilemma now.

To free myself, apparently I must forgive , but how do you forgive the unforgivable?

So...I'm working on forgetting instead .🤷‍♀️
