Have you ever lost your wallet? How did you feel?

Was on my way to work today, and decided to stop by the store and get something to eat. I got about 3 blocks away form the store to realize my wallet was missing. It fell out as I was walking to work. I rushed back and retraced my steps, but never found it. If who ever found it waited 3-4 minutes, they would have seen me.

I had about $40, debit card, permit id, healthcare card, $100 gift card, and weekly unlimited metro card I bought today. My permit may have my address on it, which worries me a bit. Don't want people knowing where I live. I lost it in Brooklyn but live in the Bronx. It could work in my favor and the person who found it can mail it to me. Losing my wallet hurt my soul today. I am 30 and at a very rough point in my life. Struggling with anxiety and depression. Currently trying to save money and move out my parents house and start life over.

I don't know why people decide to take peoples wallets when they find it. How hard is it to hold on to it and try to find the owner. After you take the money, and maybe keep the wallet, not sure what else you can do with it. I have found about 4 iphones over the past 3-4 yrs and I've giving them all back to the owner. I could have easily sold them for money. I know times are rough, especially in NYC where it's expensive. However you never know what that person is going through. For all they know they could've been my last $40. I know with time I will get over this, but It truly hurts.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. I hope you don't have any troubles with transactions on the card.

When my wife first came over to England to live she brought over all the money she had (after the flight it was only like £70 but she wanted to contribute to our new life together) and on day one left her bag sitting under a table in the library.

We went back and found it half an hour later, the bag was still there but the cash was all gone. It was heartbreaking at the time, that was all she had to offer - financially anyway, otherwise she was completely reliant on me - and someone took it.

@CheshireCatalyst Sorry she had to go through that. Especially on her first day to a new country. I wish more people had a good heart to do the right thing. I always think, if it was me that lost something, I would want someone to give it back.
My husband lost his wallet in the bus tunnel last Christmas right before we were headed out of town. A very very kind stranger tracked him down and returned it the next day. Only to three week later scam him out of 300.00. But he got his wallet and all of his cards back.

@TwiddlerofThumbs Oh wow, glad he got his wallet back. It's sad that someone does a good deed and undoes it with a bad one.
@kydflash I guess. it was just a weird situation. He was just on the verge of homeless, and we knew he was scamming us. Just hoped better for him. I really hope he is well and living a better life.
