Do you think you're still being so young at 19?

To understand love, to understand life, to understand the losses... even to understand death.

It's all relative. A 19 year old who has lived through an occupation and war, lost friends and loved ones, done horrific things to stay alive - is more mature than a 25 year old whose most traumatic life experience was watching their phone die.

@xixgun Possibly. These experiences can shatter the mind as well

@SW-User If watching your phone die shatters your mind, you were already pretty damned fragile.

@xixgun What..?
I was talking about the war thing

Hmm. Not necessarily, but the experience widens so much more as you get older, in my experience anyway. I just turned 31, and I am far more excited for my 30s than I was for my 20s. :) So much to learn, so much to experience haha.

When I was 24, an older colleague told me he thought a person was not truly mature until they were 27. He was pushing 50. I was outraged inside and thought he was very insulting. When I was 40, I realised that the older I got the more I knew I didn't know. At 16, I knew my parents were stupid and I understood everything. Now I know I understand very little and that others have much to teach me. Humility is a good trait to acquire and I'm working on it.

I didn't understand shit when I was 19. And I went through a hell of a lot more than most people. Love, life, loss, death. It took me time after that to actually process it all, rather than just reeling from it.
AndyC · 22-25, F
@Tatsumi I don't understand a shit either. lol but I want to.
Tatsumi · 31-35, M
@AndyC That's the first step. ^-^ I never could have admitted that at 19, so you're ahead of the curve.

It deppends on the experiences and responsabilities already taken.
I had to live like a full grown adult since 17. ay be too early.M
But emotional experiences have it´s own way, so, at 68, there are still things I don´t understand.

You understand and you'll understand more each year

Not all are fortunate yet

A 19 year old is not meant to understand ANY of that...that is what life experience is all about. Like school. You don't know much about anything in kindergarten do you?
AndyC · 22-25, F
@Fernie Maybe you are right and I am not meant to understand any of that, just as a 5 year old is not meant to understand integral calculus.

I am Mexican and when I was in Kinder Garden mexican law alow parents to get their kids into elementary school once they learn to read, I learned to read at the age of 4 and started it. So I started college at 16. And right now I am a med student and on my medical intership.

But I really don't understand my patients, I understand the physiological process, I understand anatomy, and I understand diseases but I don't understand their lifes and why they have to die or why their lifes are like this.

And older intern doctors do understand this things perfectly and they say: "you don't understand because you are so young" and that's the reason of my question.
Fernie · F
@AndyC No one wants to hear that they are too young to understand something...but, it's a fact. You can't relate to your patients yet because you have no frame of reference...yet. Accept where you are in life, do not try to know more than you do and it will go much smoother for you

I think life is a continuous learning experience. We are always understanding more about life every day, and even if we think we may understand it all now, life will surprise you
Definitely at "19" you have an idea of what these things are. Over the years everyone grows with experiences and we all develop our own understandings.

We almost never truly understand any of those things. Life is a learning experience. We get better and better, or fade away.

StevetheSleeve · 31-35, M
Yeah, especially if you’ve experienced them.
