What's your view on role models?

I think they have their benefits but can become mere idolism.

All people are flawed and to try and emulate the actions of another person means taking on board what makes them bad too.

My approach is to take different 'persons of interest' and just dissect them into their good and bad traits.
That way you can both discard bad traits of good people and discover good traits in bad people.

Its also useful in studying what can go wrong, and how you could end up in a similar position.

The only figures that I can now see as role models are the fictional and the legendary - who are designed to fit perfect ideals / archetypes.

- some of these are real people whose characters have become symbolic and are exaggerations of what may have been the original person. People like King Alfred, symbolic of the pursuit of wisdom, work ethic and honor. He didn't really burn the cakes, but it's true to the idea behind him.
