Has your musical taste changed as you have matured? [I Love Classical Music]

JohnOinger · 41-45, M
So what do you think of Jason Momoa & Would You Do Him
JoBlak · M
@JohnOinger I have not heard or been told anything of his work I am afraid.
JoBlak · M
@JohnOlinger Are you going to help me explore and understand his work and tell me what you think of it?
JohnOinger · 41-45, M
@JoBlak hes an actor hes from Aquaman & plays Aquaman
JoBlak · M
I love all your reponses. I posted this question because the other day I realised I was enjoying music that I used to find difficult. I put it down growing older and wondered if others had a similar experience. Thank you to you all for giving me such interesting responses and making realise I am not alone in this.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
Not really. Its a broad as it ever was...
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
Oh, definitely. I still have a lot of music to explore too! 🤔
JoBlak · M
@thepreposterouspanda You are so right there, thehopefulpanda; it is also an enjoyable process. For me it does not just apply to music, it applies to literature as well.

What I have learned is that I cannot say that I do or do not like a particular genre, be it music or literature; it is tremendously liberating and exciting. I suppose it is the ultimate benefit in striving to be open minded; I have found it applies across many aspects of life. I suppose the adage, 'don't knock it if you haven't tried it' is based in a fundamental truth.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
@JoBlak I think part of the fun is when the taste begins to get a little more refined too, ya know? There are things that I can listen to or read and know within the first 10 or 15 minutes that it's not for me... and then there's the rest of it, where the notes all fall in the right spot, and they've found the right levels in the production stage, and it all just feels right. 😌

I've been trying to get back into reading more! My attention span suffered a pretty big hit in 2010 and I'm still working on getting back to some semblance of normalcy. 🤔😅
JoBlak · M
@thepreposterouspanda I know what you mean; you pretty quickly get to know what is or is not going to work for you.

I am sorry that you have had problems with your attention span; that must be pretty frustrating for other things besides reading too. I do hope normality continues to return for you.

I love reading, always have and I suppose I always will. I love getting absorbed in another world, it takes me out of myself, which has been very important at some points in my life.
Just increased. More eclectic.
JoBlak · M
@DarkHeaven I think I am the same.
JoBlak · M
@JoBlak I am lucky; I have always been a non-crowd follower, so not only did I find my own favourites, I did not give a damn what people thought of my preferences.

@SW-User Aww. *hugs* 🖤🤗
JupiterDreams · 31-35
Kinda... When I was younger (early to mid teens) I loved emo and classic rock.

Now I love metal, alternative, and classic rock. 🌷
@JupiterDreams Industrial Metal is a natural outlet from rock and EMO.

I didn't used to enjoy music with lyrics in a foreign language, now I listen to loads of stuff I don't understand but really love.
Keeper · M
I still love my "usual", but I'm def more into the bluesy folk stuff now.
revenant · F
No. I still like rock
JoBlak · M
@revenant ...........but that needn't be exclusively.
revenant · F
@JoBlak 🤷‍♀️
CheshireAzur · 36-40, F
Just because the years and fads change, doesn't mean one has "matured". Mentally, people change every 7 - 10 years, wouldn't surprise me with their taste, including music has changed, too. Then again, some people are stuck with that music from their decade.
I couldn't say as I matured but I noticed that it has been gradually changing whenever something major happens in my life.
JoBlak · M
@zoiera Do you have music that acts like a time machine; takes you back to a significant time and place? I do.
@JoBlak there's this one song that makes me tear everytime and makes me remember a lot of stuff about a certain moment of my life. If that's what you are talking about, then yes.
JoBlak · M
@zoiera I have similar musical prompts.
Gangstress · 41-45, F
Yes and no,i listen to calmer music more now and somehow got into country and folk music lol. But still love a good rap
JoBlak · M
@Gangstress That is interesting; I find country and western the hard to get in to. However I do not like by genre, I like what I like irrespective of genre!!
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@JoBlak That's true. I'm normally the same until lockdown happened and started looking into what I was listening to lol. And it was mainly folk style music.
OnePatheticClown · 51-55, M
It expanded, that's for sure, cause additional to all those new musics, I still love those headbanging satanic metal rhythms.
JoBlak · M
@OnePatheticClown Some early loves are never lost.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I abandoned some bands and genres but I don't think it has anything to do with maturity. I keep some songs just for the sentimental value.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
It's always been eclectic and diverse, but definitely continued to broaden. I tend go go through geners phases like seasons too.
JoBlak · M
I know that I appreciate music now that I couldn't appreciate in years past.

The longer I live the more I start to love classical music. Especially J.S. Bach.
SW-User
Yes, I appreciate 80s and 90s music more now. Ive always loved Enya though.
Livingwell · 61-69, M
Yes. Definitely no longer a jazz fan. But I love country.

Diesel95 · 36-40, MVIP

Yes, but sometimes in unexpected directions.
I didn't like angry music as a kid - I do now.
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
I’ve continued to not invest in music. I like to dance to it, it is good for background noise but I just never connect to it how most others seem to.
JoBlak · M
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit Why do you think how you connect to music is different to how others connect?
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
@JoBlak mostly how others react to it. Most people I know have a favorite artist or band. They enjoy spending their money on concerts & things with their name on it etc. Many tell me how a certain group or song helped them in a hard time in their life. I just have never felt deeply about any music.
JoBlak · M
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit I am with you on that. I have no favourite genre or era. I know there are certain composers/bands/eras in which I will find a greater amount of music to like, but I do not preclude exploring other scenes.
