Can someone give me some advice?

I’m writing a story with two characters but one of them is a spirit and can only interact with the other. No other characters can see or heart the spirit. I’m trying to make the spirit less flat and just revolving around the viewpoint character. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Perhaps the spirit has a spirit world to interact with, or maybe it has an unfinished business sort of dilemma, thus is free to explore and narrate their backstory

not sure what you mean...?

something like happy (the hypothetical unicorn) or the the guy from the 6th sense? or any other imaginary friend?

Can the spirit follow other characters and act as the narrator/commentator of the piece?
I don’t have any experience writing novels (besides some crappy ones when I was 12) but I am told I have a natural skill for writing.

Can you explain exactly what you mean?

You could portray the ghost character as a grumpy old sod that gets frustrated with only being able to communicate with one person.
