I Am An Artist

I saw this on a door on a college campus and had to take a picture of it. This puts into words what I started feeling freshmen year of college. As one of the few black students people always tried to read some kind of racial connotation into all of my art pieces and I felt almost trapped into having to be a certain kind of artist. I realize now that don't have to apologize for not being defined by other peoples expectations of me.

ps: I don't know who painted this

I honestly feel the best way to stop people being concerned about race - is to stop asking.
It doesn't matter, and to those that it does, they don't matter either.

It's always strange to me when people add irrelevant descriptors. There are times skin color might be relevant, but other times it is just weird.
