I actually support the overall goal of reducing our footprint in the Middle East. The issue is the President is a “fucking moron” (so said his former Secretary of State). Rather than having trained and seasoned diplomats at the State Department working with experts at the DoD to develop and negotiate a withdrawal strategy that maintained stability and assured protection of the Kurds, the imbecile-in-chief did what he does best. Ready...fire...aim. Now, it’s up to the grownups to clean up his mess.

The policy of not taking military action against Turkey isn't abandonment. There are too many civilians along that unstable border and the US doesn't need to encourage the rise of another Caliphate. Iran would love to have the US armed forces get involved to hamper the brokering of an eventuall peaceful solution to that border issue.

Nobody is being absolved of their action here. The US not doing anything is the only way to do nothing wrong.
