Would you consider it hypocritical if someone was big into politics and global events but not interest in local people or their community

whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
I'm not sure hypocritical is the word. But its certainly short sighted. "Think Globally...Act locally."
@whowasthatmaskedman we should be aware that a clever slogan is no replacement for meaningful acton
There was an internet maxim in the early 90s...think globally, act locally. This works pretty well for any causes/important beliefs you have, IMO.

So this inability is more of a failure of thought in terms of realizing that your global perspective of course has local implications.

I know someone who neglected her own family because she was overly involved in “volunteering”. She wanted to be considered a good person. She had a Bart Simpson poster on her wall that said “Shhhh...for all they know we are a normal family.”
sometimes we have to pick our battles. i think Local is the more effective way to be effective

It is, especially when they spend all of that energy complaining when they could actually make a difference.

When I lived in a small town it was to your benefit to stay out of the grapevine.
All politics is local.

I'd consider it naked careerism - getting into politics to become powerful for self-gratification rather than to make any positive contributions to the world.

I'm not sure how much you could have one without the other. And yet, there are those who concentrate on the local level where others see a larger perspective. Neither is misplaced.

I'd feel kind of like a stalker if I knew THAT MUCH about some random person...over reaching in a way.
ninjavu · 51-55, M
I'd probably call it pretentious, but if I had to choose I'd say it's better than the opposite.
Oystercult · 41-45, M
Ofcourse i would....!!

..
And he or she is probably there for the Monaaaay... and hence ...blah to locals ! !
it is easier to posture against the gods, than feed your hungry neighbor

No, not hypocritical... but common in this day of news distraction
Yes, but in today's world of politics it would not come as a shock.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
Kinda describes some of our politicians 🙂

@Virgo79 Well the national political culture now lends itself to those going to Washington to only really focus on the beyond their state, cause that what matters to them.
MrAverage1965 · 61-69, M
Not at all since I very much fall into that category.
MrGoodbar · 51-55, M
Not hypocritical unless they don't vote locally
No, just disconnected.
MelanieUK · 22-25, F
it sounds the normal
As hypocritical as it is to be interested in electrical engineering but not mechanical engineering
