Do you know any asexuals?

It's called the Invisible Orientation. It's estimated that only about 1% of the population identifies as such. I've never met any in person that I'm aware of. Not that it particularly matters, but it goes to show how uncommon it is. You kinda feel like a unicorn sometimes.

I don't understand why people endlessly post about sexual identity or expression they don't have or aren't personally familiar with.

I know two asexuals and don't understand it.

@Spoiledbrat People wanting to understand are ok. But that's a minority of the sexuality relayed posts. Most are not so thinly disguised ways to belittle people for alternative sexualites, or holding them up for ridicule.
I wouldn’t belittle anyone. @GoldenWorm

@Spoiledbrat I'm not speaking of you indirectly but rather in general about multiple posters.

I personally think that sexual orientation is also a construct. I think humans are aroused by touch, when not aroused we can be “asexual”. When brainwashed by media and society we can be “heterosexual”. When no one is looking and the same sex touches us intimately, if we aren’t too bound by what we are taught we have the tendency to reciprocate and be “homosexual”. But all in all I think everyone is bisexual and asexual mixed together. There are moments we are not sexual, and moments that through touch we do become sexual. I’ve never been with my same sex and I’m not interested perhaps because I’ve been well brainwashed, am afraid of the stigmas, and I just love men because of their strength and obvious features.

@Specialyouare What do you think asexual means?
SW-User
I think just about all the women i've met in real life.

@TinyViolins lol idk, it's true, but i suspect it says more about me than them 😥
@SW-User Oops ! 🤭

@bijouxbroussard lol i've tried everything...

My soon to be ex hubby has identified as that.
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
@ravenwind43 That's unfortunate. It's not like either of you can really help it
ravenwind43 · 51-55, F
@TinyViolins I don't think he is honest. I believe it is an excuse. It doesn't matter anymore...we live apart and that works for me🙂

I’ve known people whose sexual orientation was a mystery to me. I didn’t ask either.
Just saw one around but I’m sure it’s just a phase.

@DrScissorhands An 18 year old isn't even done with puberty. They could still be figuring things out. I didn't realize I was asexual until I was 24
Which was the basis of my comment @TinyViolins
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
@DrScissorhands Well yeah, but saying you're sure of something indicates a pretty high degree of confidence

I met one here. She likes pretending to be tough between bouts of drug overdosing and putting people down.

My wife was for years while addressing some hormonal issues.
Everyone wants to feel special

@jetpack I don't get it, therefore it doesn't exist
I don’t know anyone personally who has declared him or herself “asexual”, but I know a few who are intentionally celibate for a variety of reasons.
TinyViolins · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard Celibacy is a choice irrespective of orientation though. It is a lot easier as an asexual, I'd imagine
@TinyViolins Asexuality is having no sexual interest in people or things...is that correct ? 🤔
