So im on failed attempt number two. Any advice on how to be a functioning human being and being able to sleep?

Its 4:32 am here :(

I was told when I could not sleep for days ,,that even if I couldnt sleep I needed to lay down ,,it made it easier for my organs to do their job filtering my blood .
Going days with no sleep at all damaged my heart ,,so even if I need meds to sleep I will take them before I become what they call slap happy ,,kind of like being drunk ..
My Daughters use Liquid Melatonin

Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that is often taken in a pill form as an over-the-counter supplement to aid sleep. It is most helpful in circadian rhythm sleep disorders, but it is frequently taken to alleviate difficulty falling or staying asleep (characteristic symptoms of insomnia)

you might also try meditation
Get comfortable ,,take in a deep breath and hold it as long as you can
Let it out slow ,,,listen to your heart
do it a few more times ,,then breath normal ,,in through the nose ,out through the mouth ,,,then listen to the rain ,,,until all you hear is the rain

I sort of day dream ,,think of good times on the water and how much I love sleeping on a boat ,,,

Hope some of this helps ,,your heart needs rest and our livers need all the help they can get

@rckt148 you are too kind to me. I will try
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@SolGryn 🤗
If its that bad I just lie there and hope I get some rest that way even if I don't sleep. The computer screens and all that keep your brain alert

@MushroomFaerie good point
@SolGryn I also use melatonin, should give it a go
SolGryn · 31-35, M
@MushroomFaerie yeah. I need to get some

Have you got any melatonin ? That helps
SolGryn · 31-35, M
@wackidywack milk helps? I can try. And I do have music
SolGryn · 31-35, M
@Mindful wow really? I must try this
wackidywack · 22-25
@SolGryn It always helped when I was little 😅

I sleep by using melatonin. Right now coughing and allergies is what’s keeping me up.
SolGryn · 31-35, M
@Mindful awww I hope you can rest soon
Mindful · 56-60, F
Thank you
From online definition:Melatonin is a ubiquitous natural neurotransmitter-like compound produced primarily by the pineal gland. This agent is involved in numerous aspects of the biological and physiologic regulation of body functions. The role of endogenous melatonin in circadian rhythm disturbances and sleep disorders is well established.

I recently found a book about sleep by Nick Littlehales. It's not really about how to sleep, but is overall about how to maximise sleep-life balance and how to recover despite a "bad nights sleep", which he says isn't really an issue. Might be worth giving a shot.
SolGryn · 31-35, M
@firelaw I will need to check it out

@firelaw Give me a quick synopsis.... Yes, there is ways to recover and maximise that delicate balance. I work swing shift continental shifts so I am very curious what the author says. I know a bad nights sleep does affect me.
firelaw · 22-25, F
@SW-User Basically he says that you shouldn't look at sleep like "I need 8 hours per night", more like "I need this amount of sleep cycles per week". Also good sleeping habits include waking up at the same time every day, even on weekends. Everything else can work around that. He also talks about the R90 sleep cycle, and circadian rhythms. It's pretty interesting.

No clue. I'm in the same boat.
SolGryn · 31-35, M
@Fungirlmmm at least I'm not alone :)
Fungirlmmm · 51-55, F
@SolGryn never alone
EvilFairy · 18-21, F
do sports till you are exhausted
EvilFairy · 18-21, F
@SolGryn pick up some nerdy sports then.. like medival style swordsfighting...
SolGryn · 31-35, M
@EvilFairy okay. I'll try :)
SW-User
@EvilFairy You mean tomorrow right? I can't imagine picking up a sport at almost 5am unless waking up :)
SW-User
I hope you can sleep until you need tomorrow once you find sleep?

I'm no stranger to sleep, circadian rhythms, working against me. So I do feel for you and hope you find a way. Melatonin might help, like suggested here.
SolGryn · 31-35, M
@SW-User at least I can sleep in...no work tomorrow
SW-User
@SolGryn You work Monday? Not to put anxiety in your brain, or take sleep away from you, if you work early Monday try to limit what sleep you get tonight (this morning really, it's also after 4am here) so you'll find yourself tired tomorrow.
SW-User
It happens to me too. I sleep and my sleep breaks at night. I could suggest you meditation.
SolGryn · 31-35, M
@SW-User I tried. I'm no good at it
SW-User
@SolGryn me either. :(
