Why do people find it so hard to differentiate between "you're" and "your"?

Arrrrggggggggg!
you would go nuts if you lived in southern U,S,A, as you know we spell and say words like we hear them, sure ant no proper way to talk lol
You could also just use the first nine words of your post and still have a valoid observation.

Or they're, their and there .... or then and than ... 🤔

@AllAboutLaffs hahahaha

@AllAboutLaffs I think then and than is usually a typo not a language mistake. I mean, like, they don't notice it while they know what's right and what's wrong 🤔
Your asking weigh two much of people.

@PrivateHell Noam Chomski has a lot to answer for . . .

I think sometimes it can be a typo.
But I have a friend on FB who constantly uses off instead of "of"
It sometimes makes me giggle!

Chill. Sometimes after a long day at work it really doesn’t matter.
I understand that there are frustrations about the correct use of the English language, but don't forget lots of people speak of type English as a second or third language. They make some mistakes, but are still miles ahead of who only speak English. I remember a conversation on EP, where a German guy and I where responding in a thread. There was one American who felt the need of correcting the German about a little mistake in his English. Another American jumped in for us, that our English was better then the average highschool student. I even see this in my job, our European HQ is in Scotland but every Dutch employee in our Dutch office uses better English than the Scots. Bottomline, do not be too hard at the rest of the world, when they do their best to keep up with you.

Ignore those who say it doesn't matter, or that we're 'grammar nazis', or even that the person is dyslexic and we should give them a break. It's not right, it does matter and if you disagree, we probably won't be friends! :)
lol YES! Good question, and, akin to "its" v. "it's", easily controlled-for or caught, but often written incorrectly.

I just saw a post's reply thread where the replier had misused an apostrophe. Another SWer called her on it and she first said it was for the plural form (it wasn't) then, when again called out, went ballistic, insisted she was correct, and quoted some other site...but the quote was about Father's Day v. Fathers' Day and still did not cover her misuse of the apostrophe...!
(To be fair, the one calling her out got a little insistent, and she claimed he was a known troublemaker for correcting people on "Grammer" [sic]...but he didn't correct her spelling. 😉😆)
I think the quality of teachers & teaching here has been sliding downhill for years, and what comes out of our schools is sometimes sad if not downright scary!
Salix75 · 46-50, F
@soar2newhighs no kidding. My child's teacher sent out a scoring sheet she uses to assess the kids' projects and included "clearity" (not a word!) instead of "clarity" 🤦‍♀️
It's now done almost exclusively to annoy whoever would be annoyed. Best thing to do is to just ignore it. It's obviously not going away.

It is what happens when you have the general dumbing down of our society, and pretty much everyone has access to a keyboard.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Their going to have to learn that there mistakes need to remain over they're for our collective sanity.
Spumoni · 46-50, M
Don't forget "then" and "than".

"I like bourbon better then rum." 😡😡😡
Salix75 · 46-50, F
@Spumoni but bourbon then rum still makes sense ;)
Spumoni · 46-50, M
@Salix75 lol
SW-User
It doesn't bother me. It's you're problem.
