What happened

What happened to manners
What happened to patriotism
What happened to "death do us part"
What happened to kids behaving
What happened to real dates

Here is my explanation and I hope you enjoy my question but think about it. I remember being taught manners how to be polite. I knew how to say thank you, yes please, good morning sir. I could wait for an elderly person to enter the door before me. If I was on public transportation I would get up for a woman or an elderly person.

I wanted to be a Marine for as long as I could remember. It was the most honorable job a person could have. I love the flag I knew US history. I respected the office of the politicians that we elected. I knew the pledge of allegiance and I knew the bill of rights. I would stand for the national anthem I could not even imagine not standing.

I do not have a single friend who has been married for more than 15 years. Most of them are on their 2nd or 3rd families. How sad and how selfish it does not seem to be worth getting married no one seems to value it. My grandparents were married for 67 years no one in my bloodline will even come close to that.

Children are out of control. I know as a child I was not perfect however I did not kick scream and act ridiculous in a grocery store or restaurant in public or in private. I have 3 boys they are all adults now and none of them behaved that way either. Why are children so ill behaved.

What happened to being asked out on a date or asking someone out on a date. Actually planning to do something other than Netflix and chill. Remember buying that new shirt for that special date. Going to their residents picking them up actually knocking on the door. Taking them somewhere special. Having a conversation with them not just texting all night. Remember making memories on real dates.

People our age talk about this a lot, because we have experuences to compare it to.

As briefly as I can manage:

As a generation, it was decided that if there was a God, it was us. In that battle much of mankind lost any superior to hold us responsible. A sad sort of Bacchanalia resulted, with much pleasure and little satisfaction. Eat, drink, and pretend to be merry, for tomorrow we die.

We recognized the need to share the wealth with our brothers and sisters, which is wonderful, but we were so eager to make sure it was reliable we gave the function of charity over to the government. They can't do any human gesture with humanity because bureaucracies have policies, not people. Charity is now a dirty word when it used to be synonymous with

synonyms:goodwill, compassion, consideration, concern, kindness, kindheartedness, tenderness, tenderheartedness, sympathy, indulgence, tolerance, leniency, caritas; literarybounteousness
"show a bit of charity"

In fact, some Biblical translations use 'charity' interchangably with 'love.'

In the process, we lost those qualities and the people who receive are resentful because the same society that helps them to survive prevents them from thriving and the donors are resentful because their contribution is extorted via taxes and they don't have a choice.

@Mamapolo2016 . You are right in The Bible charity and love are almost interchangeable. I want to believe that as a person we have certain things good inside of all of us. I do not know why those things on seemed to come out more often at the most critical times. People would prefer to do what is easy and not what is always best. Thank you for taking the time to respond I hope you have a good day.
Mamapolo2016F
Thank you for the stroll down memory lane. I remember all those things fondly. We've trashed a lot of pretty good stuff in the last forty years. And people don't seem any happier, putting it mildly. But the bell can't be unrung.
Mamapolo2016F
@sarahcupcake I wasn't blaming you guys. My generation was the kickoff.

There are a lot of things that are much better now, but in general people are not happier than they were when I was your age.
sarahcupcake36-40, F
No no I didn't think you were blaming and I also think there is no point in blaming anyone for anything... what we need to do is focus on the future and try to take everyone with us :) @Mamapolo2016
Mamapolo2016F
@sarahcupcake Well, not EVERYONE. But almost everyone. I suppose even neo-Nazis and the like serve some kind of purpose, maybe only to jolt us back to vigilance.
Jeephikelove46-50, F
I agree...it is sad. You know though...our generation is raising these badly behaved kids. 馃槼
sarahcupcake36-40, F
Forgive me but that sounds like the blame falls on children and that can't be right @Jeephikelove
Jeephikelove46-50, F
@sarahcupcake Huh? What I said or the original poster???
Jeephikelove46-50, F
@Capt11 I never said ALL
Times change. People change with them. Not necessarily for the good. Etiquette never goes out of style. It is just ignored for unknown reasons. Dates? That scene is horrendous these days. Children? They are negotiated with. Sent into time outs. They need rules. And no spanking. Force teaches nothing good. Military? Too controversial. I am not American either so I will not say a word. Marriage? There is common law now. And people have choices if they are unhappy. That is a good thing for adults and for their children. Thanks for posting. I like postings from the heart.

@PoetryNEmotion yes it was from the heart. I appreciate your reply I can tell you put some thought into it.

We would talk all night, almost every night. I got special outfits just for dates with my guy. We never did the "Netflix & chill" thing, and he always knocked on my door when he picked me up to spend our tome together. He still broke me. I'm still putting myself back together. There are nuances we will always miss, as time goes on and new traditions replace old traditions. It doesn't mean they're better, or worse, just different. 馃枻 We all have our memories.
Capt1146-50, M
@KayraJordyn Yes I can relate to what you are saying. For some reason those things seemed pure and innocent they seemed right. That is what I desire in my heart it is very difficult to find. But the memories do feel good they helped me when I reflect. I am sorry that you are broken I know the feeling. Thank you for responding I pray you find peace.
sarahcupcake36-40, F
I don't actually know what happened. Maybe it's too complicated for me. But if I had to answer that question or those questions then I think what happened is that perhaps we stopped loving other human beings as much as we ought to, and maybe worse than that, we started to only think of ourselves and not our neighbours
Capt1146-50, M
@sarahcupcake That is a very good answer charity is lost not completely gone. I thank you for taking the time to respond I hope you have a good day but more importantly I hope you are not like the people I am questioning in this post.
sarahcupcake36-40, F
Thank you 馃檪 @Capt11 I hope this doesn't sound silly but...we.... you, me, our families, our girlfriend or our boyfriend or our partner, and of course our friends, all of us.... we can change things. Not everything, maybe only small things, maybe only locally, but we can set whatever example we want to and I think that really counts. People will see us and perhaps they will in some small way copy us.... and then we will have started something really worthwhile
What happened, I think, is that people became the center of their universe...nothing is more important than themselves.

Therefore, if they don't get what they desire, they do whatever they decide to do about it, and that's okay.
Capt1146-50, M
@SWisGoingWoke I agree with you I don't know what happens to a world that everyone is worried about themselves. I appreciate your time and response have a good day.

capt11 it is the way society has gone alas marriage seems so easy come easy go too some people there not prepared too give it a chance and take the easy way out where back in the time couples worked at there marriage
Capt1146-50, M
@smiler2012 Yes that is what is so odd to me. What changed that makes people not want to work on it. It is easy to see that working on it meant a better result at the end. Or perhaps the generations before us just chose better. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post have a good day.

Egocentrism, entitlement, greed disrespect and disregard for the real values in life.

Society today is greatly lacking. The things you mention are lost values in today's society.
Capt1146-50, M
@LovelyMe thank you for taking the time to reply. I hope we as a people learn to focus on it more.
