If u saw a man beating a woman, would u call the police ?

Once again I have seen something that many of you don't have the opportunity to see. While I was at a restaurant eating my breakfast this morning, I noticed something. Outside a few feet away, and I saw a man slap a woman. Before you say anything, this couple is seen all over town daily. People saw them fighting from a distance, and nobody did a thing. I started to call the cops, but something said no. This was while I was about to get back into my car. I just stared, and they saw me looking at them. Then I went on my way. She has been with him for a long time, and I am sure her boyfriend has done this before. I thought to myself, why bother, she will just go back to him anyway. Was I wrong in not calling the cops. Something inside of me said this, she will leave when she is tired of him and for good. What do you think ? Give me your answers please. ☺

I understand your reasoning, but if you read about people in abusive relationships, part of the complex dynamic of why they stay is that they feel no one will help them.

Perhaps this arrest might have been the opportunity she took to get away. No knowing the circumstances of their relationship, but just the possibility that this could be the tip of an awful iceberg is enough to try and help

You can't control what others do. Only what YOU do. Some people are stuck in abusive cycles and this might have been the event that helped her break free from the abuse. Or it may have escalated at home and she was killed. We don't know but the moment they made it public, they made it your business and you have a responsibility. Whenever I see something like that I want to sleep free from guilt, knowing I did what I could no matter how futile.

Id have called the cops regardless although ur probably right. She.ll go back to the bastard until she sees the light. Which is hopefully before she loses her life. Dont get me wrong if any gender lashes out with violence they deserve the same response. But i have no time for bullies. Id have probably got physically involved. Glad i dont see stuff like that alot.

If you did report it there would be a record of that complaint if something did happen to the woman. which could be used as evidence.

Tricky you could have called the cops and they could have denied the whole thing happened unless there were other witnesses. I think the view the law take is that they need a statement from the woman to say he hit her. I know a woman who got beat up by her partner constantly and her son saw this for years she never complained to the police. The partner ran a football team and seemed outwardly to people he was a nice guy.
Anyway one night the guy starts beating on the mum again and the son tackled him and stabbed him not meaning to kill him though. The mother never defended her son in court and there was no police record of abuse. The boy is in jail for life and his mother doesn't visit him so tragic.

Their relationship is their own and unless asked for help it is no ones place to interfere. However, it would be wise for this couple to keep their dynamic to themselves as such public displays are inappropriate.
