Simply because someone "doesn't love you back" does not mean you don't know what love is, are capable of giving it or getting it. She clearly has some bone to pick with you. Probably that she has not had love in her life or really loved someone.

love is complicated, we experience and develop strong feelings towards people and that can be a feeling of love. But honestly, love is an experience you have to go through with someone else to truly know. so yes you can love someone who doesn't love you back but that doesn't mean you know or understand love. I'm mean who really does?

I am not at all sure that any particular feeling or experience defines someone's understanding of love. Love is NOT a "feeling." Love is also not a particular experience. Love is how we behave toward another not whatever we are feeling. This critic did not behave in a loving way toward you so I think her judgment on the subject of love should be questioned. It sounds to me as if she knows very little about love.

That girl is wrong. It would be true to say that you don't know what love is like in a relationship from experience, but you've fallen in love and loved another. Your heart can and will love. Unrequited love is one of the deepest, most bittersweet and all consuming loves there is.

There's a name for that. It's called unrequited love. Just because your love isn't reciprocated doesn't mean that your love isn't very real. You feel what you feel. Ignore this girl.
