Did I make the right choice ?

I am in a relationship with a guy I don't like. I was planning on ending things sooner or later. He is honestly a good guy, just not a guy for me. He is quite a serious guy and I dont want him to lose his time with me. Just waiting for the opportune moment.
Ten days ago I got close with a friend, to the point where we call each other each night. We have so much in common persobality wise. I kinda developed a crush on him, and he admitted having a crush on me too.
I decided we should stop talking for at least a week.
● I first need to settle things with my boyfriend once and for all.
● Try to know whether what I feel is a real crush or a consequence of feeling alone or a passing by attachment.
● See if his feelings are genuine.
● Stop this faux dating. That wouldn't be fair towards my boyfriend no matter my feelings towards him, no one deserves this.

So I am feeling really sad for ending our talks and phone calls, but it seems like the most rational decision at the moment.

If you know he is not the one, the best thing you can do for both of you is to end it as soon as possible.

You are doing the right thing for you and him. He might not feel that way, but he will learn in time you were right and he would be better with some one else.
That is a classy approach to ending the old before beginning the new. Good for you. It's always tough, but no point in long-term postponing the inevitable.

Good character is important even if it stings. I applaud you for doing the right thing.

[c=#008099]Who says you have to end the relationship? When you end a relationship, you generally end the friendship too. What you will end up with at the end of the day with that approach, is only 1 friend... that being the new guy whom you call your new boyfriend. He wears both hats... 'friend' and boyfriend.

Has it ever crossed your mind to have 1 boyfriend and a whole bunch of close male friends whom you once dated, yet whom remain on excellent speaking terms with you? If you ditch all those old boyfriends, you'll end up with no one you can call when you just need a 'friend' to talk to! [/c]
