Possible. I don't know enough about the trade, or about opium.
He smocked an oz. (one matchbox-ful) of Nepalese Temple Ball for 9 months of the year,
and when that dried up smoked Lebanese Gold.
Despite always using a bong, the phlegm he coughed up was always black.
That was back in 1980-82, in London UK.

@pagandad Something can be referred to as addictive if it is significantly more like to form a habit. You're correct in saying it's not physically addictive, but anything can be mentally addictive to the point it causes significant anxiety if you don't have it. Marijuana is mentally addictive to some people, and it is an addiction, just not an addiction that causes a physical withdrawl response. Two different things.

@pagandad I mean psychological side effects. This isn't a modern misuse of the word. Mentally addictive was a poor choice of words on my part, but my point is still the same. Marijuana can be addictive, and just because it doesn't cause stereotypical sickness symptoms it can lead some to severe depression, and to have severe anxiety. Also habit forming and addictive are technically synonyms as well and have been long before the war on drugs started. Quickly read the article below and it generally makes my point. You saying it's not addicting is a wrong statement, but people that treat the word addiction as it means you have no control over your choices are also wrong.

@MougyWolf Unfortunately, you think very different of the music, CD and all the BS that comes with it, after being physically abused by a drug addict, that also included smoking pot. When you find a way out of that hell you lived, you're more interested and personally desire to be with those that can cope life without any drugs of any kind.
