IDK I dated a girl with my ex's name and wasn't that weird. It might be weirder with my mom or sister's names thought, because they are both much less common and harder to not think of them. I literally only met one other woman with my mom's name and no other woman with my sister's so can't see how I wouldn't think of them. If their names were more common like my ex's I think it would be fine.
A couple of years back I had a crush on this guy who had the same name as my favourite uncle. It wasn't as weird as you'd think

no hangups for me.

people want to have screwed up priorities to not date someone because of their name.. well, let them be miserable.

My mom and grandma both did. My dad and uncle have the same first name as well as my grandpa and great uncle.

You ask two questions and want a yes or no answer. Men! 😝 😂😂😂

@SimplyTracie Why assume I desired a yes or no answer? For some it may be a simple yes or no. For others it may be more complex. And yet others may find it something they had never thought of. Yes or no is fine, but I'm also interested in the deeper stories and opinions. My own mother and sister were gone when I was five, so I had never formed strong associations with the names. It was just a random thought I had and pondered how those with those bonds dealt with the name associations.

@ViciDraco Okay. Gotcha. I was think of your poll answers.

Yes, I could date someone whose name is John (my brothers name) and no, I don’t think it would be weird.

I would find it weird.
ViciDraco · 36-40, M
@Paloma Yeah, I am thinking how that would be for folks with super common names.

@ViciDraco I like to date outside my race anyway, so thankfully I don't run into that problem very much!

I guess that's an easy way around it! I lack such an issue for other reasons. I guess it isn't so weird based on other answers. I guess how used to the notion may be related to how common the names are. I imagine it is easier to disassociate more common names and more difficult if your relative has a rare name.

Not only did I date, I married someone who shares a sister's name.

I don't know too many guys who's first name is "dad", but I don't think a guy's name would interfere with my train of thought during a weak moment!
