WWII -- the things that led up to it, the war itself, and the consequences (which are still fresh today and seen in many conflicts) Japan's meteoric rise from feudalism to a modern nation. Imperial Roman period. Greek wars. American Civil War (which began in the Kansas War). Ancient Egypt, and the pre-dynastic Egyptians who built the Great Pyramid and the Sphynx.

Kingdom of Kush, one of the earliest cradle of civilization.
Ancient Assyria: an advanced society of technology.
Moorish Spain: Advanced society of Art and Literature
Genghis Khan / Mongol empire: Known for being the inventor of paper currency, establishing religious tolerance and stabilizing China's economy.
