I Am Interested In Politics

One of Australia's "Larrikin" Prime Ministers has died.
Bob Hawke died peacefully at home aged 89.
Bob was a Rhodes Scholar.
Bob was known as a dinkie di Aussie guy who fought for the working class.
When Australia won the Americas Cup Yachting Series in 1983 he coined this, "Any boss who sacks anyone for not turning up today is a bum."
I remember watching that victory and I was an hour late for work.
Of course he was not perfect. Many silly things spewed from his mouth.
Probably one of the more memorable things was, "By 1990, no Australian child will be living in poverty."
Bob instigated removing "God Save the Queen" as our National Anthem and replaced it with, "Advance Australia Fair"
Bob loved his sport and as a typical Aussie would often Skull a Beer whilst in the crowd.
He famously(infamously?) entered the record books when he skulled a Yard Glass of Beer in 12 seconds when an Oxford University Student.
Yeah, he was a bit of a drunk but so were/are a lot of us Aussies.
He was not perfect, he cheated on his wife, bringing about a divorce and a new marriage with his lover, Blanche d'Alpuget.
I will miss you Bob.

Very sad, but a good life well lived.
