I Am Interested In Politics

Trump said the sound wind turbines make (he mistakingly called them windmills) causes cancer. I know we're all supposed to be used to him saying stupid nonsense by now but this just seems more crazier than his usual claims.
I remember his lawsuits over wind turbines in Scotland which could be seen from his golf course and how he lost the suit but to then come up with the claim the noise they make cause cancer seems like a very delusional way to get revenge.
If he either really believes this his mental state is worse than I thought or if people believe him after he said it I worry there truly is nothing he can say that people won't believe.

The stable genius must have thought that one up during 'Executive Time' in between watching reruns of all his World Famous speeches. I wouldn't count on him for any scientific knowledge. He never figured out how an umbrella works. Every kid in elementary school knew not to look at the total eclipse of the sun without eye protection but there he was, OUR POTUS, at the WH, for the entire planet to see. Must be from all the bats in his belfry from flapping there wings too loud.

@softspokenman Why don't you google rare earth mining. The active ingredients in the windmills is rare earth magnets.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@hippyjoe1955 The 'active' ingredient, in Windmills is WIND you moron!!!
( The clue is in the name)! 🤦‍♀️
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Harriet03 NOPE!!! The blades can spin all they want but without the magnets all the blades are doing is killing birds.
Harriet03 · 41-45, F
@hippyjoe1955 YES. Nothing can happen without the wind!!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Harriet03 I agree. That is why I don't like windmills they are too unreliable however the real danger to humanity comes from the mining of rare earths which is integral to using windmills to generate electricity. Google it. It is not reap pretty.
Do some research into PNM adding more solar panel energy and plans for adding more in the future to reduce the use of fossil fuels and the Fed. grants programs available for American home owners to install.@hippyjoe1955

@softspokenman I live in Canada. There isn't enough sunshine to melt the snow most of the year. Sorry but solar is crashing big time any time government subsidies are pulled. Not efficient or cost effective. The panels wear out before the cost is recovered.
@hippyjoe1955 Google GE, one of largest wind turbine producers in the world and of steam powered, from waste incinerators etc., turbine driven generators. Stop living in a cave with the other stable genius alternative energy IS now and will continue to grow in the future.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@softspokenman I likely know more about co-gen operations than you. I have friends that service windmills. We love to talk about how they work and don't work. I am hoping to go on a service call with them one day soon.
@hippyjoe1955 When you do make sure you bring a large bag of sand with you and you know what to do with it.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@softspokenman Not into destructive behavior. Maybe you are.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@softspokenman The systems wear out before the lease agreement ends.

It's a great idea.
I hope someday they come up with something good.
It hasn't happened yet.
@hippyjoe1955 Indeed
Notme123abc · 100+, M
@hippyjoe1955 I realize solar may not pan out in parts of CA, however my neighbor got solar two years ago and has paid for itself and I'm in Iowa.
@Budwick And you don't think that GE will address anything that would jeopardize their future in the growing world market ?
Budwick · 70-79, M
@softspokenman Like selling technology not ready for prime time?

You bet they would!

That's how they will pay for finding something that works better.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@Notme123abc Maybe your Iowa friend can sell some power to California!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@Notme123abc I rather doubt the math. I have done it several times as have other engineers that deal with this all the time. The cost of the panels is higher than the savings you will have over the lifespan of panels. The amount of electricity from an average residential installation is not sufficient to take the house completely off grid without significantly reducing electrical usage.
@Budwick Life is cruel business is ruthless, ask The Art of the Deal guy.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@softspokenman Oh, don't get me wrong!
I'm not complaining. Somebody has to buy the BETA versions so the more reasonable VHS can be developed.

They're just so heavily invested in it, now they need government to force us to buy it.
🤷‍♂️ I thought Japan bought out all the electronic devices business. @Budwick
Budwick · 70-79, M
@softspokenman You brought up GE - not me.
Notme123abc · 100+, M
@Budwick Wish we could.
@Budwick Thanks for keeping me informed and up to date. 👍️
Notme123abc · 100+, M
@hippyjoe1955 We aren't taking ourselves completely off the grid. In order to do so I would need to use my backyard and I kind of like my grass. I'm currently saving up for solar on my house based on my neighbors results. I'm a realist so I don't want to plan on being off the grid completely unless I can truly find a way to get myself away and dependable. Anyone saying their going off the grid 100% is really having to work it to do so.

As for solar panels and their return, the websites I'm seeing are stating an ROI of between 5 to 10 years depending on where you live. Up in Canada that would be a longer time period due to the angle of the sun there.

As for wind not always blowing or the sun always shining I plan on using a battery system to store energy.
