I Am a Type One Diabetic

I wear an insulin pump. I have to wear it clipped onto my bra. And a line sends insulin down to a cannula in my tummy. I have to change the insulin cartridge and the cannula every three days. Like tonight. The cannula goes in with a needle but then I pull the needle out.

I have type two diabetes myself, which is also passed on to me genetically. But I am only on tablets and diet control, I did three different types of insulin when I was pregnant with my son and it was hard, especially the diet side of it, I was very limited in what I could eat. I can only imagine your situation how hard it must be. Do you have many restrictions, in food or activities?

Well no. But I have to calculate to the nearest gram how much carbs I am going to eat and test my blood glucose and it works out how much insulin I need and pumps it in.
And. I am very active. I even swim for my country. But I can tell my pump if I am swimming or cycling and it adjusts my insulin.
I live with this all the time but it must have been hard when you were pregnant. They keep checking my older sisters when they are pregnant because I am diabetic. But so far none of them have had gestational diabetes. I probably will need extra care. @Indulge

@Hepsie thats fantastic that you are very active and swim for your country, and i love to hear that you have a positive out look and attitude. I believe it helps to be this type person. I mean its not as if we can change our situations but we have to live it everyday like you said, so we have to just carry on and manage it the best way we can.The one thing I don't like is people who complain that they have such hard lives with trivial problems, and those that deliberately damage their bodies with drugs, I think they are healthy and they want to do so much harm to themselves because its fun, or makes them feel good briefly. When one gets sick or has an illness that stays with you for life we tend to look at life differently than those that has never been sick. We didn't take things or life for granted.
You would have to be extra careful when you start a family of your own one day. Has your doctors talked about that with you?

I agree with you but some people self harm because of the way they have been treated.
And yes. The doctors have talked to me about if I get pregnant but i don’t even have a boyfriend yet! @Indulge

You are wonderful. You ain’t really got money have you. You are only 13-15. We are so lucky in UK. NHS is free. We don’t pay for doctors or medicines. My pump is free. I order my bits and bobs from Roche and they send the bill to the health board. Hearing you finding money for your cousin makes me realise I live in a very special country. @puppy123

@Hepsie yes I really got money because I'm a boy model and I make tons of money
