Your invitation included his wife. Tell him bring her or don’t come at all. That should stifle any ill-intentions. But be prepared for him to give you a story that they are breaking up or some such line.

Coming without his wife says one of two things to me. Either he is cheating on her, or she's a complete fabrication. If you do meet him (I wouldn't) ask to talk to his wife on the phone. If I'm right, he'll make an excuse as to why you can't. At that point, you should leave.
