I Thought Of You Today

Your whole life you’ve been told that you’re nothing but a minor character in this game of life. But I always knew better. You never masked your feelings about me. I never questioned why you had those feelings but I never knew what you expected me to do…I couldn’t force her to feel a certain way. An infatuation is rarely going to win out over a lifetime bond...especially with the promise that I had made to her. But I made myself turn a blind eye to your insults and false accusations. I’m sure she appreciates how you felt back then even today. Those feelings might even be the reason that you’ve managed to become so happy today. I think back to the tragedy that could have possibly befallen your family and how you were forced from the slums that you called home. You don’t think she saw you on the train the night you were forced to leave but she did. And after she disappeared I saw you willing to be seen even around the most unpleasant of places hoping to find her. Maybe it’s the anger of finding out she was trying to help me that finally pushed you away. Maybe you should be grateful for that. You no doubt looked in better spirits with your new found love some time later when we shockingly bumped into you at a resort overseas where you had decided you were actually going to live. When I was sick I found out that she went back to that resort….maybe seeing you move on made her regret not giving you a chance. But you had moved on and had even proposed. I think you were on her mind more than you could probably imagine. You’re no minor character. You never were. Conflicted? Possibly….but who isn’t these days. I hope you enjoyed your 20th anniversary.
