I Acted Without Thinking

I was leaving for work the other morning and just as I walked out the door a little boy walking down the sidewalk in front of my house cried out for help. I walked over to see what he wanted and he told me that man is trying to steal me. Without thinking I just stepped in between him and the car and said over my dead body. Then I started shaking as I realized that I didn't really think this out and didn't have a plan and figured that my dead body would probably be laying on the street shortly. The man in the car said he was a neighbor and was going to give him a ride to school but when I asked the boy if he knew the man he he just shook his head then the car took off. I asked the boy where he lived and if his parents were home and he didn't know which was probably a good thing. I had several things I wanted to say to his parents for letting a grade school child walk to school by himself and I'm sure it would not have been pretty. I walked him on to school, no way was I going to put this little boy in my car, and let someone I the office know and I also got the license tag number. I was late for work but it was worth it. The next day the children were walking to school in groups accompanied by mothers armed with ba<x>seball bats.
