Stupid smoke detector chirps even with a new battery

so I just disable it of course

I hate that damn chirp.

It should just do it once a day. I can tolerate that.

@BigbangFACTS Every 30 seconds 😡

That happened to a detector in my parents house and my mom ended up putting it in the freezer !
SweetMae · 70-79, F
If it didn't last very long, you can call the manufacturer. Sometimes they will replace the product or at least tell you if its chirping because of its location in the house.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Virgo79 I think I can imagine.....I have a mother in law.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@SweetMae and she can't hold a candle to her mom😬
I stay clear of that one😡
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@Virgo79 Good idea!! 😉

I have heard that when the sensor becomes contaminated with dust it can cause them to chirp. The remedy is to suck air through them using a vacuum cleaner, to clean the sensor.
goodlil666 · 51-55, MVIP
@ms20182878 or blow it out with compressed air. I used to do commercial building maintenance and thats how we cleaned them. You can even spray with contact cleaner let dry and then compressed air. Make sure it's unplugged if you. Use contact cleaner.
SW-User
@goodlil666 Do I have to take it apart, or can I just blow the air in the vent?
ms20182878 · 61-69, M
@SW-User I would try it first without disassembling it.
Need a new one.
SW-User
@ThatGuyYouKnew They don't even last as long as the battery, this one lasted less than 18 months.
abe182 · 46-50, M
I had that happen once it chirped with no battery and disconnected from the electricity. It has a capacitor in it to make it chirp. If it doesn't stop buy a new one.
SW-User
@abe182 I discharged the capacitor, reset everything, put the battery in and reconnected it to the power, and it stopped for 2 hours or so and then started chirping again.
abe182 · 46-50, M
@SW-User lol!!
Then chuck it.
Spumoni · 46-50, M
Mine did that after replacing battery. I shut off the power to it, turned it back on. Works fine.
SW-User
@Spumoni I tried that 🥺
Spumoni · 46-50, M
At the circuit breaker?
I understand you can get a new, free smoke alarm from the fire department.
SW-User
@PhoenixPhail wish I'd known that, I just spent 30 bucks on a new one 😟
@SW-User Oh no. Is it too late to take it back?
SW-User
@PhoenixPhail we already installed it, so I think it is
Harlow · 31-35, F
Why hasn’t fire alarm noises stepped up their game? 🤔 I want mines to sound like Samuel L Jackson screaming FIRE GET THE FUCK OUTTA THE HOUSE 😄
goodlil666 · 51-55, MVIP
You can try taking a can of compressed air and blowing it out. And maybe the new battery is bad.
SW-User
@goodlil666 I'll get another battery to try

SW-User
@tiggerandariel13 I did ours a couple of months ago, but it didn't cause any problems.
lizzy96 · 26-30, F
ugh, I hate that dam beeping noise every 5 mins. Maybe buy a new one?
SW-User
@lizzy96 got one, just have to install it, the stupid mounting ring isn't the same of course 🙄
asdfasdfdsf · 31-35, M
LOL I have previously put a plastic bag on it and taped it, stupid me

It’s better to take the chance of dying than to rage from no sleep
My fire alarms will go off at random
SW-User
@ballandchain That used to happen to me all the time when I was living in a high-rise apartment, there was always someone setting their kitchen on fire and forcing the whole building to evacuate in the middle of winter.

Virgo79 · 61-69, M
Be sure to replace it!
SW-User
@Virgo79 I'll get around to it eventually
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@SW-User not telling you what to do but that's pretty important to have.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
You probably have the battery in the wrong way (assuming it's a working battery).
SW-User
@MarkPaul um, I do think of that kind of thing you know
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Might it simply be detecting some dust on the sensor?
2cool4school · 46-50, F
Miss ya Hun hope you're well
