A family friend moved in with her unemployed boyfriend and opened a joint bank account, depositing her paychecks there. Then one day the State of I----- swooped in and took every penny in that joint account because boyfriend had not lived up to his child-care $$ obligations from a previous marriage.
Duhhh??? joint accounts give all parties the right to 100% of that account, and also gives the courts access to 100% when satisfying judgements, regardless of who put the money there.
Suggestion: When pooling resources, be sure to know the other person's financial history.
