Drowning and buried alive are pretty close. The buried alive would be so scary. I might die just of fear.

I'd say drowned. While Buried Alive is plenty scary(saw that had the most votes thus far), there's still some chance of survival if the victim remains calm and thinks rationally.

Meanwhile, drowning, you have absolutely no time to do so and still have just enough hope to make the impending death all the more terrifying.

First scenario; You're too deep to reach the surface, but with immediate lack of oxygen you panic instantly and the only goal on your mind is to swim up. If there's light above the water, you can literally see your salvation giving you desperate hope. Unfortunately, you black out an inevitable drown well before you can reach said salvation.

Second scenario; Something or someone has you pinned beneath the water, preventing you from swimming towards the surface. An anchor, weights, chains linked to something on the floor, whatever. Like before, you may be able to literally see the means to save your life right before you. However, if you're being obstructed from reaching the surface, it's likely a 'shallow' body of water. Not only can you see your salvation now, but you're just so so close to it. And yet incapable of reaching it.

Being shot or stabbed holds some glimmer of hope as well, sure. Unlike drowning, however, there are methods of saving yourself or others with such wounds. If not, the blood loss will put you to sleep and you'll die while dreaming (hopefully) something peaceful.

Slicing I can assume you mean getting cut in half at the most extreme or several cuts with a blade in the least. For the later method the same argument with shot or stabbed comes in. Blood loss sending you to a (hopefully) peaceful dream before death. As for the former method, the worst possibility would be sliced so your brain and heart are still intact in the same half of your body. While excruciating painful, you'll likely pass out from the pain or the shock will be so great you'll die almost instantly. The suffering, if there is any, will be far more momentary than drowning.

Another assumption, *splay* might imply falling from a great enough height to kill you. Like with stabbing or shooting, this can be repairable. At the very, very least one could be made comfortable before inevitable death. If the height is undeniably enough to kill you on contact, it'll be so instantly you're not likely to feel anything at the moment of death. The fall itself will no doubt be terrifying, but that wouldn't be the cause of death. The impact would.

Choked was a close second, in my choice. But I went with drowning as there's countless ways to survive a choking. First, if it's something you ate or got lodged in your throat, there are methods to perform a self-Heimlich maneuver if no one else is around. That's worst case as it would take horrible luck to fully obstruct your breathing this way. If you're being choked by another person or animal, there are several methods of getting away as well. Nearly all a variant of fighting back against the attacker, but that bit's obvious. Not only that, but murder via choking is rarely ever an effective method. The reason being is the victim will pass out from asphyxiations and the attacker will assume they're dead already. The truth is the attacker will have to continue choking you for several minutes after that. Easier now that you're passed out, but they likely don't have the time to wait that long as they're trying to kill you and get away with it.

Old age is, arguable, the best way to die. It takes forever so you have plenty of time to do what you want in life and love the people around you. Not only that, but you have more than enough time to resolve any regrets you might have and learn how to pass on peacefully with no fear.

Sorry for such a long comment. I doubt you'll read all of it. Just got away from me there.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’d rather die in the most violent way possible then die from old age. 👀

Being buried alive sounds bad...being cremated alive...well...
Suffocating or choking cause it likely would be slow and would suck
