@Primnproper You will lose your verification, but you will still be able to recover your account if you lose access to your email account. That's all the first picture offers.

@Primnproper Deleting either photo would indeed disable the matching verification option. After all, a new picture can no longer be compared to the reference when that isn't stored anymore.

You can however delete the second (public) picture and leave the first (private) picture to remain able to recover your account.

@Sepia Only if you choose to trust just 'verified' users - which would effectively mean anyone who doesn't wish to share photos is viewed with suspicion. I think many will now be viewed that way as a result of a choice not to share pictures, which could easily ruin the experience for them and would seem to defeat the object of having an anonymous site.

Exactly. People should not talk to people they don’t trust. People should feel comfortable sharing pictures and posting if and when they feel like it and if that doesn’t satisfy someone else well they don’t need to interact with them, do they? @BatRinseRepeat

@CountScrofula There are two steps. The photo to recover access to your account if you lose your password is only accessible to admins. The photo to prove what you look like will be public so other members can compare other photos you upload to that. (Both steps are optional. You can choose to not verify your account at all or only set up extra recovery options without sharing a public photo.)

@bijouxbroussard This process verifies that the photos in your albums and posts are really yours. That cannot be done based on payment details, especially since those are processed by a third party and the owners of SW receive very limited information.

@kokaine No, verification is entirely optional and only proves that your pictures are really you. If you don't post pictures of yourself anyway, this has no effect.

@BeachBum It has no impact on those. The check mark only confirms that the photo linked to by the icon is of the account owner.
