I just don't understand why people can't take a debate seriously.

There's two camps as I see it.

Some who just aren't emotionally invested or care enough to rant on and on in a debate over an issue and don't feel it's worth their energy.

Then there's the big one that just hates anything that doesn't fit their biased narrative and just want to throw judgemental temper-tantrums towards any deviation of there view.
Also there are people who try and debate principles which are not pragmatic and not debates on facts.


I just had someone do the exact thing you mention. Accuse me of name calling when not once the entire time did I us one insult or call the person any names.

The tl;dr version is that your brain reacts to attacks on your ideas the way it does to physical attacks. So you get an intense, emotional response unless you've kind of trained yourself to deal with cognitive backfire.

And I find the stupider the belief, the stronger the reaction.

Debates have always been hard for me
but Sometimes I get in a mood where I enjoy it

I just usually don't find pleasure like "omg i don't want to explain this to you"
I'd rather go write or cook or something
