Why is it racist to ask people to have id to vote?

Not trying to cause a fuss or anything but I feel like I must be missing something as a lot of the reasons people are saying could be describing anyone's circumstances...

Never understood how America constantly seems to find ways to make life more difficult than it need be.

Unless of course, that's the point !

Every other country manages to tag it's newborns with a birth certificate that has to be registered within one month of the birth.

After that you have a National Insurance number assigned to you from your government that follows you all through your life !

Schooling and records; every job you're accepted for; every claim you make for state assistance; your pension contributions; your criminal record......everything.

This is how you debunk the idea of 'voter fraud'

@Picklebobble2 USA is similar - you need a unique social security number to exist - I know this from when I worked there.

However - the issue is that in the UK we don't ask for photo id to vote in the USA increasingly states are insisting. To put into UK context.... if you didn't have a photo driving licence or a passport then you'd essentially be excluded from voting.

@OldBrit Yeah i get that the whole point is to deliberately deny voting rights to people who wouldn't vote Republican anyway but the endless b/s they come out with pretending it's 'for security' needs to be challenged as bunkum !
@Picklebobble2 Hard to do( tagging, etc.) when you’re letting illegal immigrant run amok in a country.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@soar2newhighs And yet in 270 years of independence you've STILL to build 'a wall' to prevent it.

Ever wonder why ?
@Picklebobble2 It upsets so many pro
Illegal immigrant supporters that there’s a LEGAL process to come into the US Got that in England, too?
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@soar2newhighs Oh England is an island that's why it's easy to find anybody who shouldn't be here.

In fact to get a 100% hit rate all you'd have to do is check each and every truck coming either through the Chunnel or at the ferry ports, if they wanted to find them
@Picklebobble2 You bring up a great point...the Chunnel...you’re-shafted unless your authorities have a handle who comes from the mainland.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@soar2newhighs Yes. Many commonwealth citizens will have "right of abode" to live in the UK. Anyone from Ireland has a right to live in the UK, there's no exceptions on that one.
Anyone from an EU country (and EFTA member states too actually) who was living in the UK before 1 Jan 2021 has "settled status".

Obviously there are other routes in, via a sponsor employer to get a work Visa (I personally have been involved in many cases of getting those for people I've employed) and finally of course via claiming asylum. There is a plan, sadly, by the current government to impose restrictions on asylum seekers which I feel as a country that historically been known to be so welcoming is a major retrograde step.

@Picklebobble2 @soar2newhighs

I fail to understand how that isn't a difficult problem to deal with....

Simple - heavily go after employers who employ people without National Insurance Numbers and who don't carry out pre-employment identification checks. I've worked in organisations where that's been the policy and frankly it isn't that difficult to do.

If you stop the demand - i.e. cheap labour being exploited then people would stop coming eventually that route.

@soar2newhighs Very true ! You'd be 'surprised' at the number of illegals who board French trucks to try and make it through the Britain !

Funny how they get discovered on the BRITISH side of the tunnel though, never the French !
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@OldBrit AND THAT'S THE ANSWER !
You WANT the illegals to make it !
You NEED the illegals to make it !

Because if they DIDN'T there's a WHOLE LEVEL of the economy that would COLLAPSE without them !
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@Picklebobble2 Or - employers would be forced to pay the living wage, the government would get more NI and tax income...

Oh yes - we'd have to pay more for our take out food and the peas they pick etc. but I don't actually see any downsides for most people...
@Picklebobble2 You’re ignorant of other factors regarding illegals in the US. Yes there is an economic side to this. Too many people who do not live here espouse much but have not got all the information statistics and facts.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@soar2newhighs Are they a burden on your economy ? Do they need excess government assistance costing you the taxpayer money ?
Do they bleed government programs dry in their needs ?
Do they take advantage of education or college programs preventing solid citizens a place in college ?

NO is the answer !

You need weight to your reasoning
