I Hate Fighting And Arguing

Mum and dad had some real blazing rows, back when I was around 5 or so. Not nice; really vicious. At one point I felt that mum was going to leave dad...leave me and my sisters...for this other guy.

Freaked me out.

Whenever I hear an argument I just find myself transported to that frightened 5 year old on that day...

PTSD? Maybe.

Sorry. Maybe seek a counselor to find out if it is PTSD or panic attacks etc.
MiyaDuponte · 26-30, F
@Fungirlmmm I know they never did it on purpose; heightened emotions brings that stuff out of you, wherever you are, and I know - intellectually - that mum’s drink problems were a major factor...since she stopped drinking they have rarely, if ever, argued....

But yes, panic attacks sometimes. Counselling might be a good idea. Thanks...

Sounds very similar to an anxiety attack triggered by past trauma events from your younger years. Get some counseling. There is help to overcome it if you want it.

@IBHappy Thanks Hun, I will....

@MiyaDuponte best of luck. Look fora therapist that uses EMDR. It's the best treatment modality for PTSD
Thats when you realize that you will be a better parent and the first sign of abuse - vamoose

@MarmeeMarch Maybe, but then again emotion = reaction, doesn’t it? So, just have to be careful.
@MiyaDuponte sure but when there is so much emotion that gets in the way of a normal life you have to get away from the situation

@MarmeeMarch True. Lack of control? Totally understand that.

My idiot parents were always fighting, that's why its funny people these days are like "Oh its terrible!! That families these days use their ipads at the dinner table!!". Like really? As opposed to my parents screaming at each over the table about politics, gun laws or my Dad's insistence that Africa wasn't a continent. My Dad is a moron.
MiyaDuponte · 26-30, F
@Allelse Oh, I am sorry to hear that....

Yes, I guess that tech does take away some of that stuff. Good point.

@MiyaDuponte I mean if we'd all had something to do instead of sitting in akward silence before the next fight started, maybe dinnertime wouldn't been so goddamn awful. Yep!! Mum fighting with Dad, Dad fighting with Mum, sister taking Mum side, Dad feeling ganged up on, Dad goes ballistic, then dead silence till one of us was finished eating.
I have a similar reaction although the level of anxiety has lessened.
