why do girls/women lie and say they have a boyfriend why not just tell the truth and tell the guy that you're aren't interested or we can be friends?

Glycinamide · 31-35, F
Let me give you an example that is far too common. A woman is sitting at a bar with a few of her friends, having drinks. A guy has been eyeing her across the room and approaches, asking to buy her a drink, clearly interested. If she says "No thank you, I have a boyfriend", he will likely walk off. If she says "No, I'm not interested" he might ask her why and continue to question her about it, making her uncomfortable. He might insult her. He might try something anyway. The sad fact is there are men out there who do not respect a woman saying no because she doesn't like them and will only respect a woman saying no because another man is involved in her life.

I don't lie, i tell men exactly that and they're usually so butt hurt they become mean to me.

@Paintedfox Rejection is a bitch, but theres no need to get all butt hurt about it.
Paintedfox · 36-40, F
@SW-User The bummer is I want friends! But if I can't be honest, and have my space, later gator! I had a guy show up at my house with guns last year though, so kinda stopped going out on dates after that...
Because some fellows will keep asking or trying to change her mind unless she tells him there’s someone else. Or even worse, become abusive.
You’re correct, “No, thanks” should be enough, but for some guys it isn’t. 😒

Oh yeah, that’s true too... some men actually do try to change your mind@bijouxbroussard

Because some men don’t take rejection well
They respect another man more than they respect a woman's lack of interest.
@AmbivalentFriability You’re right, actually. Her wishes don’t matter. If she doesn’t “belong” to someone else, she’s fair game.

You often don't know which guys are going to be assholes or potentially get aggressive until only *after* you've turned them down. Why take the risk?
SW-User
Sometimes even after telling them you have a man they still say " save my number in your phone...under a girl's name" like, even a boyfriend doesn't matter.

@doxju Not often enough

@doxju tell the truth? Hello, can I get yournumber ??? No, sorry . This truth? What do you think the reaction often is? When I say " I have a boyfriend" it will cancel any possible aggressive reactions. And still I've heard " what does that have to do with me/I dont care. Ppl can't handle the simply telling them truth, a no.
Because her personal safety is at stake.
A dude tried to run me over bc i wouldnt look at him while he was hitting on me🙃
@doxju Would you befriend someone that angry ?

@doxju You definitely don’t understand the dynamic. If a guy would get that upset because she wouldn’t look at him, he has expectations that go beyond “friendship”.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
My sisters tell me stories about pushy guys who won’t leave them alone. Often, “I have a boyfriend” is the only thing that will get a guy to go away. Women just learn it.

@doxju They would be naive to give their number to every guy who approaches them and said “I’ll be your friend”.

It’s emotionally exhausting to have to constantly reach a point where you have to tell someone you aren’t interested in them. The next question is why? A guy should ask himself why HE isn’t interested in a different girl/lady/woman. That’s your answer... same reason a guy isn’t attracted to a different woman is the same reason a woman isn’t attracted to a man If the answer is no, it’s awkward to explain why...most men don’t take rejection well

Simpler and avoiding any other extra unnecessary questions etc.
There are many reasons they might lie. To spare your feelings. To get you to accept the no. To avoid retaliation. Etc. The fact is you don't know what's going on in this person's life or why she does the things she does. You're better off too if she lies so easily lol
@Qwerty14 I imagine the OP was referring to a situation where the two are not well-known to each other.
@bijouxbroussard Ever told a stranger that you wanna be friends? I haven't lol
@Qwerty14 Not a total stranger, but an acquaintance, I might.

Because a lot of times guys don't listen when a girl says no I'm not interested and only choose to leave her alone if they know she's dating someone. Though some guys don't even care about that and end up getting offended about being rejected regardless of what you tell them.

I've personally never done it but those are the reasons I've heard.

Because men are scary

@SW-User 👻
That's terrible. I know such girls who just flirt and call their male "friends" as 'husbands' and what not....whereas they're only playing around. Nothing serious.
