Would you prefer to lose all the memories you have now or never be able to make any new memories?

Choosing neither is obvious. But let's say one it's being forced upon you, which would you choose?

My mother-in-law can’t remember what she just ate for lunch, but can remember her children and things from her past. This is far more common....and, to some extent, expected. Losing all of your past memory is the subject of a couple of sci-fi shows/movies, but in real life tends to be a sign of advanced cognitive disease.
As someone who has lived most of my expected life span and experienced memories of those who were very close to me and are now deceased, I’d prefer to not be able to make new memories than to lose all existing ones....as my existing memories are precious to me.

I wouldn't "choose" either one, but if one were to be forced on me I'd rather be deprived of past memories.

In any case, choice and force are antithetical concepts. If one is forced, one cannot choose.

This is like the morons who say "all we're ASKING is for the rich to pay their fair share." Those who say that aren't "asking" for shit. They're DEMANDING it by FORCE of government.

Losing prior memories is basically losing your identity
Lose all the past memories...hoping the new ones will have a much improved ratio.
I could forget everything. I wouldn’t know to miss any of it.
Considering that my short-term memory has waned a bit, I seem to have retained my long-term memory but am less able to make new ones.
