What makes Europeans think they are any less brainwashed by their own media corporations?

after all, if you were would you really know?

I read left, centrist and right wing newspapers here, and left and centrist American newspapers. They're surprisingly similar in their reporting. The only thing that differs is the alt right. Plenty of what is reported can be easily picked apart but whenever it is, there seems to be schoolyard tactics to stifle any scrutiny or debate.

In general then, not much difference, but I'd always instinctively feel that a media operated by big business is going to hold a certain view and some of our news organisations which are not-for-profit and funded by the people can potentially be more free in what they say (although aren't always because of criticism from the right and their need to be representative as opposed to reactionary).

@SW-User Yes, and it is only worse nowadays with the internet and social media making it so easy for literally anybody to spread (fake) news.

I can't remember how I came across it, but I stumbled on the World Press Freedom Index for 2018. It does seem to corroborate what I was saying about US and UK news being similar (UK was 40th in the list, US was 45th). But it does show a lot of Northern Europe (exluding the UK) has most freedom in the press.

No idea how the figures are compiled are what conclusions can be drawn.

@GlassDog The interesting thing is the example of the person I had in my mind when I wrote this was someone from the UK. There were others but it seems for that one it isn't all that different yet they boasted.

@Jackaloftheazuresand Yeah, it's easy for us to think our media is unbiased (and it's always easy to fingerpoint at America) but when you actually consume both nations' media daily, we're pretty much getting the same news in the same way. One difference is that we get a lot more international news, but that's of little relevance when talking about bias.

I for one detest the feeling of having a dirty brain

@Jackaloftheazuresand Does it scrub in the folds too? I hate when it gets washed and looks all sparkly but then like it’s filthy inside all the wrinkles.

@KingofPizza2 you won't have the capacity to hate after

@Jackaloftheazuresand Oh if I can’t retain my hatred towards random pieces of fruit then I am not interested.

The man who is the most deceived is the man who doesn't know it.
