I Am Sick Of Jackasses

its getting worse. Here, much less so on the old EP. even just a comment or observation, especialy but not always if it is less than slavishly agreeable is taken by a certain kind of Jackass, as an ivitation to argue.
if it was civil debate? by informed persons FINE
but the thing I find in common in this kind of jackass, is ignorance, and emotianal fragilityand servile deadication to some power they suck up to.
they do not accept evidence, disount that any data that is not in thier belief is some kind of trick.

It really is a sad state of affairs we are in. Differences are no longer celebrated, they are perceived as threats. Tolerance is only extended to those with whom one agrees. Compassion and respect are practically non-existent. Gone are the days where we are taught the art of good communication and respectful debate....

@SW-User I agree there seems to be heightened sensitivity to differences of opinion. I don't know if we should completely romanticize the past though. There are plenty of good video and audio examples that point to how we got here and showcase how different opinions were vilified even back in the day.

Pull up clips from old TV talk shows dating all the back to the 1960'a and 1970's and you see people treating each other with disrespect, resorting to name-calling, and threatening people with bodily harm simply for expressing alternative points of view.

@MarkPaul I agree that it has always been an issue. However, I feel it's more pervasive today... or perhaps it's that there's such a lack of the good things that used to balance the bad out. I think there's been a shift in the general attitude of people, toward each other, that didn't used to exist. In general, people are less willing/or more afraid to help each other out, show compassion, or respect a person who is "different." Perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems that way to me.

I can relate. A growing number of people (not just here) seem to think intelligence is solely a measure of agreeing with their point of view. If you do agree, you are demonstrating intelligence. If you don't agree, you are trolling for an argument for attention. It's one more sign that people across the globe don't really know what true intelligence is.
One of the reasons I'm on here less. And no longer ask anything thought provoking. 😔
our country used not to be this way.
it took 40 years for the takeover of the media by conservative power.
thata you had to do this, screams of how cruel and abusive discourse has come to be
@SatyrService all of the media has an agenda, sadly. So do the politicians, lobbyists and corporations. To think they all aren't interconnected is naive in my humble opinion.
@BaldAndBold agreed!
I agree, Satyr. What to do about it? We shouldn't feed the trolls nor should we feed the jackasses.
@PoetryNEmotion do not respond, then mute them.
if people are being civil? tell them so.
dont fall into the trap of egging them on
they seek attention, any kind.
deny them that
@SatyrService Sounds good to me, my friend.
