I Am A Strict Mom

As long as our children live under our roof rent-free, they will follow our rules or they will suffer the consequences.

For those who ask the punishment for adult children who are acting childish by not following the house rules --like the rude potty mouths displayed by a couple of the commentators here -- and they feel they are too old for the appropriate childish punishment -- like getting their mouth washed out with soap and then being grounded for a month, the first week with no SW or cellphone, TV, Internet or any of that stuff -- they can pack up their bags and get out.

@Dreammmer: No not really -- it just means that type of behavior is not tolerated --they have to leave.

Mom's answer to this question was that spanking is a childish punishment and I would be too old for spanking when I quit acting like a child. Since I now have a thirteen year old who has asked the same same question, I have given the same answer.

I suspect when she is eighteen --if she wants to act like a child and not follow the house rules -- she will take the other option, which is not available to her now, of living elsewhere.

@beckychandler: This is very true at that age you should be mature enough to behave and follow the rules of the home if not there is the door you're free to live on your own. If you want to live at home rent-free and enjoying your parents support than you'll do them the courtesy of following the simple rules they have for you. If you don't and don't want to move out then childish punishments will still be used.

My sisters and I had our parents pay for our college education but if we wanted to live on our own we had to pay for that. We all decided the better option was to live at home and save our money. Sure the rules were not always easy but it was worth it and I think it paid off in the end.

@beckychandler: I've found talking to other mom's my age that for those of us who had strict proper parents at home we all agreed that while the punishment would be worse as an older girl better that then having to be cut off. Thankfully most girls that age are pretty well behaved :)
