I Am A Strict Mom

Yes I am. My parents were strict with me and I am strict with mine.
Zsuzsanna1 · 41-45, F
That is okay, as long as the strictness is accompanied by the necessary amount of love.
Ross19 · 31-35, M
@Zsuzsanna1 But I think you grew to know that your parents disciplined with your best interest in mind whether right or wrong and this for me is like a parental love.
Zsuzsanna1 · 41-45, F
@Ross19 Not even that, but let us leave that. I survived, that is what matters.
Ross19 · 31-35, M
@Zsuzsanna1 Absolutely that’s all that matters. I praise you for raising your daughters very well.

The second I read the post, a loud klaxon saying "SPANKING" blared in my head.

Being strict isn't something to be proud of.
RoboChloe · 26-30, F
@Deletedlol I'm not now, nor have I ever, said strictness means abuse. I don't know why people keep getting defensive about that. I'm not arguing that being strict is necessarily bad for a child, it's just something that I personally disagree with. Personally. I'm not trying to attack strict parents, many of them are wonderful and loving parents, I'm just sharing my opinion. No parenting style is something to be proud of, because there's no objective best choice, just opinions. You should be proud of your kid and what they become, not the way you chose to bring them up. At least that's what I think.

@RoboChloe you are quite confused...got kids?
NickInSurrey · 61-69, M
@RoboChloe it depends on your interpretation of “strict”. If it just means spanking hen I agree - but that is a narrow definition. If it means having clear, well-defined boundaries and expectations so that your kids understand how they should behave, I have no problem with that. It does not mean that you cannot adapt to circumstances but you do need consistency. It is unfair on a child to wonder why they are being punished for doing something today that they did yesterday without comment.
NickInSurrey · 61-69, M
Being strict is about having high expectations and standards that can be flexible but dont just bend with the wind. This has to go together with guiding and nurturing to enable your children to achieve these standards whilst accepting that they are learning and will make mistakes.

Oh dear, I hope you are not another one with a spanking fetish pretending to be a strict patent.

That is just awful.
Fernie · F
@Underconstruction 100 hearts for that one!!!

And you're telling me this because...?

We weren't allowed in the kitchen except to get water, do dishes, and take out the garbage. I got cooking lessons starting at age twelve.
