Do people on your job only seem to want to engage in a silly conversation?

For saying stuff just for the sake of saying it and not for any real meaning or connection. People don't seem to like thoughtful conversations just a bunch of silly stuff.

I am very observant. My co-workers, whom i share an open office with, talk outloud to themselves, and/ or about what they're doing so that other co-workers can chime in and make a conversation out of it. I find it weird.

I cant even explain how weird it is. As soon as it is quiet for like 2 minutes, people say " uh its so quiet" as if quietness hurts their ears.

Sometimes, during lunch break. People seem to feel that they have to talk about something when they're together, or they'll feel awkward. I've been eating alone most days lately, which has been kind of a relief.

I can relate to this. I tend to not have much, if anything, to add to those conversations. They're just noise, with no purpose other than to avoid awkward silences.

@TeresaRudolph71 exactly how i feel

It's everywhere! I walk my dog every day. An old man sits in his garage waiting for me to walk by. He calls me up to come talk to him and even bought my dog treats (this ensuring she will drag me up the driveway). He's got nothing say other than "It's hot". So boring, I considered not walking by but that wouldn't be fair to me.

@curiosi lol. Omg

Possibly you are introverted and they are extroverts. I always had similar issues my whole life long.

@iamnikki can you block them out for a while? That's what I do... I indulge them for a couple of minutes when I walk in but then settle in, plug in my earphones and get my much needed alone time (well, as much as you could get in an open workspace) to recharge :)
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
@iamnikki I understand. 🙂

@Reemar yea all i can do is tune them out and turn on my music quietly.
I know exactly what you mean my co workers are the same 😂 but since we all like bunch of brothers n sisters in work we don’t care and just comment randomly on other co workers convo’s , it’s crazy 😆

There is more talking in my job than I would like because I'm often busy, but at least it's usually insightful or interesting. I work with very clever, older people.
thankfully, i have a door to my office. but, when i am around them, its pretty standard. how was your weekend...... and such.

and listening is good but also need to be able to focus seems to me balance is importnat at least that what auntie says
I don't like the people I work with, so any kind of real meaningful conversation is out of the question.

Yes.

Or they moan and wont do anything about what they're moaning about.

Nothing silly in our line of work. Serious matters!
