Habita advocati diaboli...

While outside the mainstream maybe of contemporary western thought sometimes (leaning instead to what the Catholic Church teaches - and has always taught - so sometimes that seems 'controversial' in an unhealthy world), I wouldn't say on the whole I have very controversial opinions.

I do have the annoying habit, however, of arguing the exact opposite of whomever I am speaking/writing to thinks, just for the sake of it.

Don't think it's a strategy for keeping friends long term, somehow

Are you a contrarian ?
Persephonee · 22-25, F
@therighttothink50 Well....if you told me I were a contrarian I'd probably disagree with you...
BlueVeins · 22-25
Obviously it's a cognitive bias, but... it does keep the brain sharp. It's a great thing if you have it but can learn 2 turn it off

@BlueVeins Thanks I can now pretend it's healthy :D But it is hard to NOT do it sometimes

@Persephonee yeah... 😵

Playing devils advocate.. I must admit, I am guilty of this at times too! At least it promotes thinking more about subjects even if the conclusion is eventually the same. And it sharpens those debating skills lol!

@Wolf90 Few things are made worse by examining them from different points of view

@Persephonee Agreed

Ah, I can relate to that. If for no other reason, to give the other person a chance to test his or her own arguments.
