@CathyUK And why do you think women have that responsibility ? Men are allowed to be who they are, but women are expected to control both men’s behavior as well as their own ?

@bijouxbroussard Not control but influence, just as mothers do, like nurturing. Because men are fueled with testosterone at that young age that can get in the way. Women are not hampered with that.

@CathyUK We are not their mothers, though. And they are not children.

@CathyUK Yes. But I’ve also known men who were more mature than that, not hotheaded. And women who flew off the handle easily. A personality issue, independent of gender.

@bijouxbroussard Of course. I am not wanting to paint all men as aggressive and hotheaded. Just the ones that are can be changed by the right woman.

@CathyUK But that shouldn’t be a woman’s responsibility—to fix men. Not to mention that most men would probably prefer to be accepted for themselves, not changed or “fixed”.

@bijouxbroussard It isn't their responsibility as such but something that can naturally occur and that I have noted occurring. My point was that when females are encouraged to outdo the boys in aggressive uncouth behavior as has been the culture in recent years then what can save some young men from their own excesses becomes thin on the ground. A lot of things should not be.

@CathyUK It seems more like women are allowed to be themselves and not admonished to restrict themselves simply because they’re female. Some women are still going to be sedate, because that’s natural for them. For those with a different nature, they don’t have to repress it anymore. Not all men are “uncouth”, and those who are more gentle by nature should be allowed [b]that[/b] aspect without their masculinity being questioned.

I feel you misunderstand me. I never in any way suggested men who are gentle should have their masculinity questioned. Of course people can be themselves.

@CathyUK I wasn’t accusing you. But that’s fairly common, the flip side of the belief that women aren’t supposed to be uncouth because they’re female: that men who aren’t are somehow lacking. Women do also have a certain percentage of testosterone naturally occurring, albeit a much smaller amount than men.

I know they do. A lot of testosterone combined with a lack of restraint is not a good recipe, and alcohol of course lowers restraint. My only point was that sometimes women can provide, not should, but can provide that restraint when needed, and that was all I meant.

@CathyUK Some women are a gentling influence on some men. Some [b]men[/b] are a gentling influence on some women. And certain people of [b]both[/b] genders can’t be gentled by anyone, they have to learn to control themselves. 🙂
